Barry

My name is Barry, I’m a director at Mindset Matters and my aim is to make people physically and mentally stronger through physical activities. I’m a fully qualified personal trainer (level 2/3), Mental Health first aid for adults and children (level 2/3). I have a passion for helping people with mental health, drug addiction and involvement in crime.

I myself have suffered through all of the above and found a way out. I’m now putting my past trauma and mistakes to use by showing people how to overcome and avoid situations I found myself in throughout my life..

Kirsty

My name is Kirsty and I’m a director of Mindset Matters. I am a fully qualified personal trainer with a Level 2/3 diploma. I have 15 years’ experience in the care and support work industry. I am fully qualified in first aid mental health for adults and children with a Level 2/3 diploma.

I am passionate about the work I do for Mindset Matters. I struggled with my weight for a very long time through childhood trauma and death of my father who suffered massively with mental health issues.

Mental health problems are at an all-time high and the struggle I see has a massive impact in our community. My role is helping people overcome mental illness and tackle obesity through introducing them to physical activity classes. Keep the body moving, keep the mind clear, set a goal and achieve to believe in self-love.

JJ

My name is JJ, I am a Voluntary Director for Mindset Matters. After 18 years as a senior carer, I felt I needed a change of direction. Seeing first-hand the impact that mental health & addictions has on the community as a whole has encouraged me to want to help tackle the issues we as a society face today.

I have been a part of the Mindset Matters team for 2 years. I’m currently working towards my PT level 3 qualification, I am trained in youth work, safeguarding for adults & children, mental health first aid for adult & children and First Aid. My passion is to offer guidance to the children and young adults to help them to develop better skills and coping strategies.

I believe we can achieve this through physical activity & encouraging a more healthy positive mindset. Evidence shows that children and young people who are more active have more confidence, higher self-esteem, less anxiety and stress and better social skills which are attributes that can help them deal with the challenges they face in daily life.
